Kirkpatrick's artwork also references iconography from William Blake's illustrations of Satan's Torment of Job, Van Gogh's Artist on the Road to Tarascon, and the tomb art of the Egyptian artisan Pesdus (also known as Servant in the Place of Truth). The artwork presents a world of unchecked (i.e. "unsupervised") Artificial Intelligence, appearing to overwhelm humanity. A volcano of art spews "techno lava", while some citizens flee, and others enjoy the spectacle. Meanwhile, the figure of Vincent Van Gogh appears to escape the destruction. suggesting that true human creativity cannot be surpassed by digital algorithms, thus offering a beacon of hope for the future.
